New Delhi August 1 dmanewsdesk: Remember that yellow floor-sweeping cape gown that Rihanna wore to the Met Gala in 2015? The gown became a fodder for memes and even gained the singer many accolades for nailing the theme that year.
The 32-year-old singer had worn a yellow Guo Pei haute couture cape gown with a long-embroidered train at the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York City. The theme for the gala that year was ‘China: Through the Looking Glass’ theme. And recently, she recalled her feelings about the gown before walking the red carpet.
Rihanna told Access TV that she was afraid of getting out of the car wearing the gown because she felt overdressed for the occasion.Rihanna at 2015 Met Gala Photo: Reuters
She said, “I remember being so scared to get out of that car because I felt like, ‘I’m doing too much’. I was driving past the red carpet and I was just seeing, like, gowns, and I was like, ‘Oh my god, like, I’m a clown, people are going to laugh at me. This is like too much.'”
Yes, you read that right. Rihanna thought that she was overdressed and looked like a clown for the Met Gala that year. She added, “I circled like three times, I’m not even joking.”Rihanna at 2015 Met Gala Photo: Reuters
She explained, the insecurities stemmed from the sheer size of her gown and all the choreography that went into it. “The choreography of getting in the car and getting out, like, we had to choreograph it. Who sits at the doors? Where does the coat go? Where do I sit?,” she revealed.ADVERTISEMENT
But in the end, Rihanna let go of all her insecurities and decided to walk. The dress was stitched together by one woman, designer Guo Pei, and it took almost two years to make it.
