The demise of Santoor maestro Shiv Kumar Sharma marks the end of an era.

New Delhi, May 10 ,dmanewsdesk: The demise of Santoor virtuoso Padma Vibhushan Pt Shiv Kumar Sharma marks the end of an era, Pandit ji, who took the stringed instrument to the global stage and successfully straddled the worlds of classical and film music, died here on Tuesday following a heart attack at his Pali Hill residence.. He was 84.

Padma Vibhushan recipient, Pt. Shiv Kumar Sharma is  believed to be the first musician to have played Indian classical music on the santoor, a folk instrument from Jammu and Kashmir. As one half of musician duo Shiv-Hari, he composed music with flute legend Pt Hari Prasad Chaurasia for an array of films such as “Silsila”, “Lamhe”, “Chandni” and “Darr”.

He was the pioneer of Santoor and his contribution is unparalleled..  It’s an immense loss  for ‘Legends of India’ and we shall miss him no end since Shiv ji unconditionally championed the prime aims of the Society, to promote and nurture traditional Indian art forms, which is, sadly, in danger of dilution and decay, said Dipayan Mazumdar, Chairman Legends of India.
