Conference at BU

New Delhi  Jan, 8:  Indian students are recognised globally and they have to become aware of not just their immediate culture but of that of the world, said Hans Hoyer, secretary general, International Federation of Engineering Education Societies (IFEES) while addressing a gathering of professors and industry practitioners at the fifth International Conference on Transformations in Engineering Education (ICTIEE). The three-day event was organised by Bennett University (BU) in partnership with Indo-Universal Collaboration for Engineering Education (IUCEE) to focus on engineering education and improve faculty quality and learning pedagogy.

The conference also aimed to provide young engineering graduates access to new technologies to upgrade their skills.

Surendra Prasad, chairperson — National Board of Accreditation (NBA), emphasised that the academic framework and Indian curriculum especially for higher education should adapt to changing needs. He added, “We also need to provide incentives to continuously upgrade and improve the quality of teaching to create better learning outcomes.”

Speaking at the event, Deepak Garg, chair — ICTIEE, spoke about bridging the talent gap “by updating students with the requisite skill-sets in today’s technological environment through industry integration and global learning methods.” Workshops on entrepreneurship were also conducted.

Scholars presented papers on different subjects including outcome-based education, governance of education in India, enhancing educational research and faculty competence, transforming learning and teaching into millennial leaders, and also the impact of massive open online courses (MOOC) in India.
