COVID-19: 20 more cases in Pondy, tally rises to 39,717

Puducherry, February 27 dmanewsdesk:  Puducherry posted 20 new cases of coronavirus during last 24 hours ending 10 am on Saturday, pushing the overall infection count to 39,717.

The union territory recorded one related fatality during the last 24 hours, raising the toll to 668, Director of Health and Family Welfare services S Mohan Kumar said.

The deceased aged 87 years died of covid pneumonia, severe acute respiratory disorder syndrome and septic shock.

The patient had diabetes mellitus among other co-morbidities.

The Director said the new cases were identified at the end of examination of 1,414 samples and the fresh cases were spread over Puducherry and Karaikal 9 cases each and Yanam 2.

Mahe region did not report any fresh case of infection during last 24 hours, he said.

The fatality and recovery rates were 1.68 percent and 97.82 percent respectively.

As many as 16 patients were discharged from hospitals during last twenty four hours after recovery. Of the 6.27 lakh samples examined so far 5.83 lakh were found to be negative.

The Director said that there were 197 active cases while 38,852 patients were treated and discharged so far and there were 668 fatalities.

Meanwhile, 9,589 health care workers and 740 front line workers were vaccinated against COVID-19 so far in the union territory since commencement of the vaccination drive in January.
