Jun 4 dmanewsdesk: The Indian Institute of Technology (IIT), Bhubaneswar has decided to conduct final exams in online mode. Following the decision, the students have urged the authorities to adopt alternative modes of evaluation as more than half of the final year students are unable to arrange the required resources such as laptop and high-speed internet.
The students took to micro-blogging website, Twitter, and highlighted various alternatives being adopted by other IITs. The students are concerned as they want to graduate by the end of June as many of them have job offers and delay in the final exams may cost them the opportunity.
They are demanding that the assessment should be done based on previous exams and assessment instead of online exams.
“Two alternative examinations are scheduled, one from June 24, 2020, and another during the end of July/first week of August to facilitate the students to take any one of the examinations in case it takes time for a student who does not have facilities to acquire the facilities to take the online examination at home or from a nearby facility. The institute is also arranging a mock test for the familiarization of the students,” read the official statement released by the IIT.
“In case if the pandemic situation due to Covid-19 improves, a student may also have the option to come to the IIT campus and take the second examination,” the statement read. However, the students who are unable to arrange the resources are distressed that if they wait to appear for the second exam, which may be conducted offline, it will delay their graduation.
